  • DF 25 not idling

I just picked up a 2001 DF25 tiller model. The guy had not run the engine for a year or so. I got it running today, checked it over and there was fuel in the oil from where I assume it was stored in the wrong position and the plugs had a fuel smell on them. I drained the oil, changed the plugs and it is running better but it will not idle very long without the choke around half way out. It seems to be getting good spark through the inline spark light tester on all three cylinders. I pulled the carbs off and pulled the bottom carb fuel bowl off and did not see any signs of white ethanol damage.

Is there any thing that I should look for that could cause this concern. I am thinking to pull the carbs back off and open them up to see what the condition looks like.

    Thanks in advance

Clean the carb jets, it probably has plugged jets or passages in carbs.

Thanks for the quick reply. Looking on this page Suzuki Outboard Parts 2001 DF25 CARBURETOR Diagram I am seeing a Adjuster for #32 but looking on the carbs there is a flat plug that has no screw head to remove it.

My question is that is the adjuster behind this flat brass plug and how do you remove the plug if needed.

Also what is the base adjustment for the air mixture aduster screw? Is it like all vehicle carbs preset to 1 1/2 turns from the factory?

      Thanks again

Those are what we call EPA carbs, the adjustment is made at factory to meet EPA guidelines then blocked off with tamper proof plug. There are no specs listed for it in manual. Shouldn't have to remove it for cleaning but if you do you have to drill out plug, use a drill stop on drill bit so drill bit does not come in contact with screw. Turn screw in and count turns until it is lightly seated and record so can put screw back at same setting after carb is cleaned then replace plug over screw.
