  • DF4 fuel leak

Hi, i have a DF4 (2005) that is leaking fuel sporadically (but enthusiastically) from the hose that runs down off the carb and ends near the fuel shut-off valve below the engine. I'm guessing something is occasionally sticking and the fuel is venting down this hose. When this leak occurs, the engine is, unsurprisingly, unreliable, cutting out at low revs. Any clues?

sounds like the float valve is sticking open

Is that a 'take apart and clean out' problem, or is it likely something needs replacing?

with the age a good clean up would be in order then make sure the float is adjusted correctly

Make sure you record the idle-air mixture screw setting (if multiple carbs, each carb, and never mix parts between carbs) before removal.
Take pics before removal, to help putting all parts/tubes/accessories back like they were.
Also, you do not need to remove any linkages, only the jets, needle valve and seat with float assy. After soaking/cleaning blow out all small holes/pas-sages, and jets where fuel or air flow through carb with good compressed air pressure.

Good luck. Post back when able.

Thanks, only a 4 horse, so 1 carb!

Easy job. Remove the carb and check the float valve. The best way is to disassemble the complete carb and clean it out. Also the membrane from the fuel pump is leaking often. When you press the bulb then fuel is spraying from the pump.
                  Regards, Martin
