Anyone any suggestions, please, IMG_0655.JPG on how to deal with the corroded pits on the top face of the block, below the head gasket?
These pits were directly below the long channel on the underside of the cylinder head, which was totally blocked with salt. IMG_0653.JPGIMG_0654.JPG

The only thing i can suggest is going to a machine shop that specializes in aluminum welding, to have those areas built up by heli-arc welding, then grinding those surfaces back to where they should be.

The cost of this work you will have to find out, and whether they can do it without removing any other parts? Many of the parts for this motor may not be available anymore? Also, you'll need to consider if the crankshaft and rods, bearings, seals that are now quite old, will last you much longer?

    Good luck.

From the pictures, the block will have to be disassembled pits ground to good material, welded, decked. You will be money ahead to find a used block & head. A good example of what happens when you don't flush with fresh water after the salt & change your internal anodes once in a while.
