  • 1989 DT200 charging

I think I changed battery switch while engine was running. Now when I turn key on volt meter on dash goes up to about 8 volts then slowly goes to 0 volts. When checking with hand held volt meter 12.5 volts at battery while not running but 13.3 while running so it seems motor is charging batteries. Did I just mess up dash volt meter or is something else going on?

You might get an inexpensive auto store dc volt meter that would fit in place, and wire it in place of your existing volt meter as a test.

BUT, before doing anything else, look at the back of your meter. May be a rubber plug covering a slotted switch. Notice/mark what positon it is at, then turn it back and forth a couple times, putting it back in its original position. Then see if it does the same thing.

Good luck, post back when able to let us know.
