Hi all,
Ive just replaced my internal anodes and thought id share some tips. After removing the bolts holding the plates on i used a [very large] set of multi grips pulling and spinning out. My anodes were just a pile of salty mush.
To remove the stainless steel bolt from the cap i placed the head in a vice and spun the cap, this reduces risk of stuffing up the bolt. If you have plenty of anode left you could grip that too possibly.
With all anodes out i have then, using an old filleting knife, scraped all the crap out. Due to some of the crap falling in I then used compressed air to give the coolant cavity a good blow out, still with all anodes out. I then replaced and refitted all anodes.
I then connected hose to to fitting in powerhead to give a flush, tell tale could even be removed to allow crap out. Then did with earmuffs and engine running.
Also noticed a noise in mid unit, sounding like just above waterpump. Hear it only once warmed up and is consistent with drive shaft revolutions. My guess is its a bush? I will remove lower leg and have a look in the coming days but have been advised that this is common as its a rubber bush lubricated by water and gets noisy when heated up? If so ill throw a bit of rubber grease on it...which will probably last a year or so haha.
