  • DF 140 Electrolysis Prevention Advice

As a follow up to my post early last week regarding my df50 that does not idle with cowling on the problem stemmed from anodes that were never replaced during year end service. The exhaust has a hole and head gasket blown. I also own a 140 and don't want the same thing to happen. Are there sacrificial anodes or sinks with the 140? How to locate? Any advice?

Yes, there are internal anodes, as well as externals. Click on the picture upper right of this forum page, click on the year of your DF140, click on "DF140" and then click on "cylinder head" There you'll see the anodes (there are two). It doesn't really indicate their location in the head very well, but you should be able to find them with very little trouble. The illustration shows only one, so you know what to look for. The parts list indicates that there are two. The cover is a teardrop shape, with a single bolt holding them to the head casing. My guess is that they are on the left side of the head, but that's just a guess.

Depending on the year, some DF140s have 2 anodes in the rectifier and 2 in the head. My 03s only had them in the rectifier. They are all located on the port side of the engine.

Thank you. I stand corrected. Being a DF150 owner, I only checked the block and the head in the DF140 diagrams.

Hi Lunchmoney, would it be possible to post a photo of your DF140 head with no anodes in it, as i have never seen one and would like, just as a mater of curiosity ?
          Cheers

Not a great pic but the arrows point to countersunk hex plugs instead of anodes. Both my 03 heads are this way.
