I recently purchased a 2001 Suzuki DF70 with a tilt and trim that does not work. I took the motor to a Suzuki Dealer and he said that both the manual and the automatic tilt were broken and he wasn't sure that he could fix it. Is this possible?

Well, to start, let's make sure our terminology is correct. I've never heard of automatic tilt, and I assume manual tilt to be the opening of the manual release valve so the motor can be tilted up by hand.
What exactly happens when you push the tilt/trim switch? When you open the manual release valve, can you tilt the motor up by hand?Mike

Sorry about the confusing terminology. When I press the trip switch the motor would move up about one inch and then stop. Also some hydraulic fluid would leak out. What I think controls the manual tilt is a recessed aluminum screw that is broken and has to try to be drilled out. Thanks for the help.

Okay, so your electric/hydraulic trim is messed up. Leaking is not good. Looks like you might need to replace the manifold assembly of your trim cylinder. There are two different kinds on the parts diagrams. Not sure which you have but the one with the reservoir on the side appears to be obsolete. Hopefully the newer one will fit. It's a lot cheaper, too.Mike

Another alternative might be available. I don't know about being able to fix the manual release valve that you say is messed up, but depending on where your leak is, there are parts available, seals and such, for the manifold. Your messed up manual release valve might be the reason for the trim not working, if it is stuck in the open position. This would not allow pressure to build up in the cylinders to move the piston up or down. That was one reason I asked about what happens when you operate the tilt/trim switch. Can you hear the pump running when you activate the switch?Mike
