  • Owners Manual available?

    Hello,
I am considering buying a 2017 DF30ATL2 motor for my dinghy. I would like to read through the owners manual to determine what I will need to setup the motor.
Does the motor have a lifting ring on the top?
    Any suggestions?

I was going to look at the parts page, however, I do not see a DF30 listed
    what year is this engine?

I do not see the DF25 or DF30 listed in the parts section of Boats.net

Are you are going to just use it as a tiller!
But suppose that could be different if it is a big dingy
I would suspect the enhine bolts on the transom and fuel tank and fuel line fit in best location.. if not sure you can attach pictures
I am not sure the owners manual will be much help
you are probably going to want a short shaft as I cannot imagine the dingy drafts very deep
that point also brings up a question - why 30hp? would that not be a lot of overkill on the power side?

your best source at this point might be to call the service department of where you plan to buy the engine and just ask questions
ask about the lifting ring at the same time - there are some older models that are 30 hp. but parts page is of little use in this regard

I have a 2015 DF25ARS, which is essentially the same motor. Yes, it has a lifting ring on the top. I lift it with a come-along hanging above the transom. The owner's manual doesn't provide a lot of detail regarding installation, except for a fairly standard drawing showing recommended engine height.

When I bought my motor, it was available with or without PTT, and I bought the ARS model without PTT. The DF25/30 motor is no longer offered without PTT. I have a friend who bought a DF25ATS for a boat similar to mine, with PTT. When he mounted it, we realized that the PTT moves the engine aft an inch or two relative to the transom clamps. This required my friend to fabricate a longer steering arm, while I was able to use the standard steering rig on my boat without PTT.

I can post a few pages from the User Manual if you would like, by taking photos of the printed pages.

            Art,
I am buying a DF25ATL2 motor with remote steering, tilt/trim, long shaft (transom height is 21").
The motor should arrive on Tuesday. What I know I need at this point is to order throttle and shift cables - old motor used 12.6" cables. When I look on the Suzuki parts list, the cables seem to be 3300 Xtreme cables but it is not clear if I need adapters for each end? One forum states the 3300 Xtreme cables are not specific for Suzuki and are used by Yamaha and Honda also, which leads me to believe the need for Suzuki specific ends but I am not sure.
Does Suzuki specify Oil specs and Lower Unit lube specs?
What lube does Suzuki want on the steering cable?

I can’t help you on cable ends as my steering is hydraulic
the bushing the manual refers to a Suzuki water resistant grease. book shows part #99000-25161– i am sure there are all sorts of commercial brands available
lower unit gear oil is SAE 90 weight again many marine brands
my 175 uses 10W-40 marine engine oil
what has been discussed here on the forum is not to use automobile oil

21 inch transom must means it is a bit more than the usual dinghies I generally see

once you get your hands on the steering cable you should be able to figure out connectors
I didn’t see where you are located- there maybe some folks here than can help point you in a direction of s good dealer

extra parts to have on hand would be water/fuel filters/ oil filters / the lower unit screw-in plugs for the lower unit oil - mine have a tendency to corrode and get destroyed when removing. they appear to be brass and relatively soft metal

Shift and throttle cables are threaded on both ends. No adapter needed.

My motor did not come with any oil, but I believe my friend who bought a DF25 ATS a year later said that his did include needed oil, or that the dealer he bought it from gave him some oil with the motor. I put synthetic oil into my engine when I received it, but I've since heard that synthetic oil should NOT be used during break-in, as at may not allow the rings to seat properly.

You should consider buying a Suzuki Maintenance Kit for your motor, which includes a spare oil filter, fuel filter, and a replacement impeller, spark plugs, along with some other stuff. All things you will want/need in the first year or two. Also, after a couple of no-start scenarios, I bought a fuel-water separator after about a year, as recommended often by Moonlighter on this site. I wish I had done it at the outset. The motor includes an interior disposable separation
filter, but I reckon the interior filter will last a lot longer if an exterior filter is present.
