  • DF25 choke question

    2003 DF25 4-stroke .. 3 carbs .. remote throttle & ignition switch

Please excuse what may be a dumb question or two. I've searched through previous posts plus hunted through my service manual & still come up SOL.

I understand that to choke this engine, I need to push the ignition key IN but what should I see on the motor (with the cowl off) that lets me know the choke is on? Shouldn't I be able to see something move?

It seems like there's a choke solenoid (somewhere) but I can't see where it is or what it moves. The closest I can find in the book is a brief mention under "fuel system" but pictures aren't too good. Can't find anything in the schematics in the electricals chapter.

Will sure appreciate some pointers. Maybe I'm making this harder than it is.

    Thanks,
    John

Your assumptions seem correct. Remove the air intake cover and observe the choke butterflies, they should move in unison when you depress the ignition key. If not, then it is not working correctly. Follow the linkage that connects the tree chokes, that will lead you to what ever solenoid or cabling that actuate them. This might help narrow it down... 2003 DF25 Suzuki Marine Outboard CARBURETOR Diagram and Parts

In the parts diagram that mmanuel links you to, it appears that the carb has a manual choke (reference #s 44&46 in the diagram). So pushing the key in, in your instance, would do nothing. #44 in the diagram is the knob that you pull to engage the choke. All four models of the 2003 DF25 show the same setup with manual choke. The knob should be on the front of the engine.

        On DF25 choke .. Thanks!

Thanks, Gents. You both helped. Should now be able to track down the choke solenoid. Curiously, Mike, there's no choke knob on the front; it is indeed choked by pressing the ignition key *in*. The serial # is also in the range for '03 DF25s. And yet, as you say, all the '03 models referenced in the carb diagram were indeed manual chokes. Go figger!

I should have some progress to report in the next day or two. This probably isn't a big deal to most folks but might be interesting to someone at some point.

        Thanks again ..

If you are able to post a picture of the carbs and an overall picture then we can tell you easily where the solenoid is or that it is a manual operated choke.
