  • Idle speed increases

I have a new DF2.5 purchased online.....love it and all is well except that after an extended run period the idle speed is excessive when put in neutral. The next time after cold start the idle is normal. I do not wish to engage the gear when idle is excessive. Any ideas?

Can you confirm that your throttle plate is fully closed? Try to push it with your finger and see if the revs are dropping. It is also possible that the adjustment is a little of. Can be a bit to lean. Don't know if that is adjustable with the new 2.5

Thank you sincerely for your info.
Have not tried checking throttle plate...good idea....don't know yet if carb mixture setting is available......will check.....could slight overheating happen? Movement of tiller handle position sometimes affects motor speed slightly.....doesn't seem to be causing this problem.
Since I am so dumb about outboards (this is my first) I am interested to know exactly what the two discharge holes below the pilot water hole are for......I feel some air discharge and sometimes slight water spray....manual does not explain.

I think that's your exhaust but not sure. Do you have a picture of it?

Normal exhaust gasses exits above the prop. This can be the "bypass hole" because at lower rpm's the exhaust gas pressure can't push the water out and exits out those holes.

both the mail nozzle and low speed nozzle are to smal so it runs to lean. you can adjust the mixture screw but therefore you have to drill out the little plate that is in front of it.
i always make the nozzle's a little bit bigger with a special tool.

the lean mixture make the RPM's go up in neutral . i fixed about a 100 engine's with this problem . it accure's also with de DF4/5/6
