  • New Suzuki smis gauge interphase cable 2.9 not connecting to 2017 df250

Purchased a new Suzuki 4" smis gauge for my new 2017 DF 250
Ran interphase cable Thru harness only to have plug not match up
Says gauge is compatible w/ 2008 and newer motors but this is not the case
How do I connect my cable to motor?
    Thanks Steve

there is a relatively short connector wire that plugs into the round SDS plug that you then plug the engine interface cable into. when you purchased the interface wire did they tell you it requires one more piece of wiring

You have the wrong interface cable and should exchange it for the one with Version 3.5.0 software. The cables have the same plugs but different software.

The interface cable you have is running software version 2.9.0 and is NOT suitable for a new 2017 year motor. It will never work properly.

There are two ways to connect up the motor and the gauges. It depends if you already have, and want to keep, analogue gauges; or if you have decided that you ONLY want digital gauges.

If you want both analogue and digital gauges, then you have to connect the interface cable to the SDS plug on the engine. In that case, as Art said, you will need an adapter cable. Your new motor has a square connector plug on the engine where the mechanic plugs their laptop in for servicing and diagnosing issues. Thats the connection we call the SDS plug.

Here is a link to the adapter cable:

But, if you only want digital gauges, you should connect the interface cable behind the dash to the gauge wiring harness. Then you dont need the adapter cable. But before this will work, you need to change the main harness connction in the engine from the analogue connection to the SDS plug.

It would be a VERY good idea for you to read the paper attached to the following thread that tells you all about the whole deal involved in connecting up your new Suzuki to a NMEA2000 network using the Suzuki interface cable.

It will save you time, money and frustration. And it will save us having to repeat the information it contains!

See the paper as a pdf at the bottom of the first post:
