Just want to know how much oil the 1999 DF 40 takes. Don't have an owner's manual and would like to change oil.

a very quick "google" revealed only 2.5 litres, which does not seem like much to me, or, you could just drain the oil, estimate how much came out, add that much, give it a short run, check dipstick and fill to suit.
