  • 2008 DF 25 V-Twin Dropping cylinder

One of our DF 25's is dropping a cylinder at high rpm. The oil/temp light turns on and then a cylinder immediately drops. After returning to idle for a few seconds, the second cylinder will begin firing again. We have disconnected the oil sensor and ran it and this did not work. We also changed the oil and filter but this did not fix the problem. Any ideas?

I have the same problem. Bought it 6 weeks ago and after the first drive it occurred. Took it back and they changed the impellor and cleaned out the carby. Still had the problem. Took it back again and they replaced the thermostat. Did it again... I just took it back in today so hopefully they will fix it this time. I'll keep ya posted.

Yeah I got it back. They reckon that they just cleaned it all out and had a good look but couldn't find any issues?? I ran it that afternoon and it seemed fine. It seems like this is an issue Suzuki are keeping under wraps as a manufacturer fault. The amount of people on forums that have this same problem is amazing and no one seems to know how to fix it?? I just hope now it doesn't happen again as I'm sick of taking it back to the dealer.
Hope you can figure yours out. Sorry I couln't narrow it down for you

              dropping cylinder

I have just finished break in on a 2011 Df25+ about 8 additional hours. When able to during break in, I began opening to wot and the same occurs to mine. The engine runs extremely rough at wot and red light comes on, then decelerates to idle as.it.is.supposed.to, then red warning light goes off and idle fine. It does.however have a miss. I'm starting to regret buying suzuki. It is currently in shop for mentioned problems.

                DF25 dropping cyl

I have a brand new DF25 Vtwin that is doing the same thing, slowing down or dropping a cyl at WOT. Oil is ok, it is pumping water fine, engine does not appear hot. I'm wondering if the engine is over reving at full throttle? I have the 10 1/4 x 10 prop that came on it. I am pushing a 500 to 600 lb. 16ft. flatbottom skiff. Engine is mounted correct hight with no calvatation etc. Engine starts, runs fine and smooth at all speeds except WOT. After a few moments red light comes on engine slows down and after you return to idle it is ready to go. Manual mentions over rev protection with the same symptons. Has anyone tried putting a higher pitch prop etc.? Sure would appreciate any imput as I am starting to wonder if I have messed up with Suzuki. Thanks

                    Hi everybody,
Im new to boating. I have the same exact problem as the above quote. Mine is a 2007 carberated df25 on a aluminum grizzly tracker with the 10.25 / 10 pitch prop. My GPS says im going 23mph and i can cruise like that no problem with the throttle at 3/4. as soon as i give it more gas, the engine runs rough and then the red light comes on goes to limp mode. I bring it to idle and then the light goes off and i can take off again. my boat hull is 380lbs and im 180 lbs and the engine says 160lbs. i dont have a Tach, but i think its the revlimiter. but cant tell should i change the pitch on the prop?

how is your boat motor running now with the changed prop?

Went to a 13 pitch prop fixed it!!!!

Well I went to west marine locally and found a prop that was a 13 pitch, I wanted a 12 but did not have one in stock. So for 53 bucks I gave it a try. changed the prop in 5 min and took the boat out for a ride. with two people in it GPS says 27 MPH at WOT!!! AND NO MORE REV LIMIT ALARM. That was the problem. I think they put the 10 pitch on for a much heavier boat not for my 380lb grizzly.

                          revolution limiter

Hi here. I am new here. This problem is wide known as a max rpm limiter for motor protection. This engine is initial target is for heavy boats so the prop pitch is "short". By using another bigger prop the problem is solved at once. I have this motor 5 years and works more than trustworthy! ...and fuel consuption is out of imagination...

                          Happy new year!

New here and noticed this topic is kinda old but if you read your manual about what that light means while at WOT is overheated? No? THEN ITS OVER REVVING! I bought mine brand new in 2006 and it was doing that after I broke it in, it came with 10 pitch prop and would do 23 mph on gps then alarm/light, I READ MY MANUAL! Swapped the prop with a 13pitch and me and son are hitting 28-29mph with no alarms/light this is on 16ft aluma-weld mod vee hull and im thinking of getting a 14pitch as I can hear its just about to the hit rev limiter still. I love this motor and haven't ever thought of getting rid of it I even had to switch from 5gal gas can to a 3gal as it just sips fuel.

Stainless Steel 12 pitch trade for a 13-14 pitch SS

I got a good deal on a SS12 pitch for this motor I need a 13 or a 14 SS prop if anybody is interested in a trade let me know.

Also on the tech side, Has anybody had a faulty oil pressure sensor? Im about to change mine out because sometimes my engine starts up in limp mode now and I have to shut it off two or three times to even get going.
