    DF140 Cam Position Sensor

    I got the 2-4 code and replaced the CMP. Still get the code. Some say that the system will correct after an on-off ignition sequence . . .nope! Some say that you have to take it to the dealer and hook it up tot he computer (at $175 a shot!)

    Can't find a software package on line (eBay has one, but it is in UKRAINE ! !)

    Boat/engine otherwise runs great. Anyone have this problem, and how did you fix it?

    First of all the ecu can't tell if the cam sensor is working by turning the key off and on, the engine has to be cranking so it can count the four on off signals every two crank revolutions. You don't need to have it put on an sds system the ecu has already told you there is a problem in the camshaft circuit.

    You need to do some voltage drop tests on the voltage supply, signal and ground circuits, are you handy with a multimeter.

      Red . . thanks for the reply.

      I have used the boat several times with the code flashing on the tach. Boat runs fine. I know that the ECU recognizes the fault and sets the code, but why won't the ECU recognize the new part and cancel the fault code?

      The new part MIGHT be bad, but I can't justify spending another $75 for new CMP sensors until I find one that works -- if that is even the problem.

      I realize the CMP is a simple Hall effect sensor, and I have researched how to check it on the bench, but I don't have the harness, etc., required to do the test.

      i do have a multimeter, but am clueless on how to do the tests you recommend.

      How can I cancel the error code?

        Possible cause :
        • ECM failure
        • Wire continuity / connection failure
        YES
        CMP sensor failure
        NO
        NOTE:
        If there is an open circuit of any of the connector wires, sensor
        damage or any other malfunction, ignition timing will remain
        fixed at BTDC 5°.

          Where did you get the diagnostic data & chart? I have downloaded a service manual, but can't find it.
          How can I check if the CMP sensor is good?

            Catcom . . .OK, found it in the manual. Thanks. All I have to do now is find a 44-pin test harness.
