  • Suzuki 2.5hp 4 stroke

i have a suzuki 2.5 hp 4 stroke that i use for my inflatable dinghy that i use for my sailboat.. the motor probably has only 4 hours on it. .however it doesnt want to idle at all.. i need the choke to keep it running...there doesnt seem to be any adjustments except one screw that lets gas out of the bowl.. and a higher revving screw.. any suggestions

seeing as you pull the choke out and it is OK, that would indicate a blocked idle jet, or a bad air leak, make sure the carby is bolted on nice and tight and there is no sign of a bad gasket, after that, as long as your fuel is fresh, a carby strip down is in order.

thanks.. guess i will take it in to a shop... the carb looks simple but?? probably must be bit of dirt in it.. like i said this motor only has a few hours on it...and the only way i can keep it running is with the choke on a little bit.

I have never pulled apart a carby on one of those small motors, but I can't imagine it would be too difficult, if you are going to have a go yourself, buy a genuine manual and do the carby as per the manual.

I had the same problem. I am not a mechanic, but I took the carb off carefully and removed the jets one at a time until I found the blocked idle jet. It has a tiny hole that I cleaned with a piece of very thin copper wire. Problem solved and now runs like a dream.
