  • OK BOATS GOOD ACCEPT FOR 1 thing

If you see my thread from earlier today, we got it running and unseized and good to go. However, when we got it on the water, the overheat censor came on within the first 2 mins.

We instantly shut it off and trolled back to the dock. We took off the lower unit and the impeller looks brand new.

    Any thoughts?

There is a bit to the cooling system, not just an impellor, there is a thermostat, the water pump housing, the water passages in the motor itself, most have a by pass valve too, then there is the electrical sensor system, it all needs to be inspected methodicaly and carefully

The motor is a 2000 30HP Suzuki Outboard. When we got it unseized, the motor was running fine and the water was pissing out the normal area and then on the back of the lower unit as well. Even though an impeller can look brand new, it could still need to be replaced?

Here is a video of it running yesterday. Thanks in advance, corycbhttp://www.flickr.com/photos/5786722...in/photostream

did you replace the heads that you said had been shaved down to hop up the motor and increase compression to get more power?

an outboard motor is not like a motorcycle or a v8 engine like in your car, you cant just increase compression and reduce valve and piston clearance and not expect the motor to overheat as a result.

untill you replace the heads with the "proper" heads and return the engine to "normal" compression and condition then people will give you advice without knowing you dont have a stock engine. such advice wont be that helpfull since all the facts arent disclosed by this new thread.

also while you are replacing the heads you will have access to the water passages to ensure they are clear an unobstructed
