Costly repair - overheating alarm

Just got the bill back to clear the blocked water passages under the cylinder head of my DF50. ($1176). Motor is 6 years old and only 188 hours

Unfortunately due to having a young family I havent been able to use the boat as much as I'd like. In fact havent had it out for close to 5 months.

I always flush out the engine with fresh water after every trip for around 15 minutes however the mechanic advised the problem was probably due to lack of use.

Apart from using the boat more which should help does anyone use salt away or a similar product which may help this from happening again?

yep, saltaway plus...

Check your internal anodes each season. I'll bet they had Crap caked all over them and prevented them from working. Not sure how many your engine has (2 or 4). But it's easy to check clean and reinstall or replace. $8 or $10 each.
