  • DF40 Tilt/Trim Sag Problem

I have a 2004 DF40 that has had a gradually worsening sag problem in the power tilt/trim mechanism. The engine goes up and down fine and does not leak fluid. But it will sag down from any tilt or trim position. Right now the motor will sag all the way from the full tilted up position to fully down position in a few minutes.

I had a shop look at it and they supposably replaced the seal washer on the manual release valve but the problem persists. They didn't want to tear the unit down and tried to sell me a used replacement PTT. So I'm going to try to do the work myself.

Is there a way to isolate the problem to a particular part or parts so that I can order the correct replacements?

Also, the shop manual indicates that a special tool is required to unscrew the PTT cylinder head. Is there a way to do this with standard tools?

Unfortunately you will require the specialty tools. I recommend taking to a technician that is familar with hydraulics.
