Here's the story, have a 2004 Johnson 200hp 4 stroke that has thrown a rod and ruined the crankshaft. The engine was well maintained and only had 460 hrs on it. Marine mechanic says the fix is to replace the power head at a cost of $8400.00. Wondering if anybody has experienced this? Basically nobody can give me an answer as to why this occurred and I'm reluctant to drop this amount of money without knowing it will repair the cause of the problem. Secondly, I'm getting a price of $6800 for the power head, does this seem right? And lastly, any random thought on whether or not it is worth it to spend this kind of money on an 8 year old engine. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

The short block would be about $6800 but will not include cylinder heads, probably can buy a good used outboard for the money takes to fix yours.
