Cant get shift forks lined up

I believe that is the correct terms. I just pulled my lower unit to change the impeller. Before I knew about the access hole, I lowered the lower unit which shifted the the drive into forward, I then unbent the cotter pin and pulled the connecting pin which allowed me to remove the lower unit. I did my work, yada yada. When I reattach everything, the lower unit slips in one direction. I have tried pulling the shift lever into forward, reverse, neutral. Then reattaching the lower unit. I can not for the life of me figure it out.

Ok got it figured out. Apparently it is supposed to click if the helm is in forward and you spin the prop forward.
