  • DT 9.9 Thermostat Question

I have a 1986 DT 9.9 that the previous owner had removed the thermostat.
We ordered the Suzuki 17670-93962 listed in the parts manual and have
a question as to how it is installed. It looks like it is pushed all the
way into the housing but that seems as it would impede any water flow
and almost impossible to remove as there is nothing to grab onto.
Also, is there a recommendation on running with or without the thermostat
with regard to engine performance? Thanks, Karl

Should just push into hole, thermostat will help engine to run at normal operating temperature.

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but I am assuming the thermostat is
inserted with the spring end first and pushed until it hits the shoulder
in the housing. If so, how do you remove it? Thanks, Karl

Yes that is correct way, just pull it out with fingers.

Thanks for the help. After cleaning out the accumulated crud in the housing,
it became apparent how the thermostat needed to be installed.
          Thanks again, Karl
