  • New cylinder head gasket - use sealant yes/no?

    Hi there,

Trying to coax a non running DF2.5 back to life.

Engine had no compression and after taking head off discovered exhaust valve stuck open and push rod had fallen into the crankcase. I managed to retrieve the push rod with some pliers and it appears undamaged as does the stuck exhaust valve - just popped back in with a light finger press.

    1. Can I get away with reusing old push rod, valve, spring etc? I suspect the outboard was stored with the exhaust valve in the open position for several months and the salty air caused it to stick open - I don't think it stuck open while running.

    2. Will get new cylinder head gasket but should I use sealant? There appeared to be a very thin layer of black sealant when I took the head off which I assume had been applied by suzuki from new. If I need sealant which is the best to use?

    Thanks!

On the larger engines...no sealant is required. I placed the white stripes to the head but according to suzuki..it doesn't matter...see my post head gaskets DT225
