2 stroke alarm beep

Hi I bought a tracker boat with a 1995 40 hp motor. It starts right up runs great and there is an intermittent beep at 4100 rpm and above. I can take it to 5300 rpm and the beep is still intermittent It is using oil in the reservoir but not very much. I have pet about 3 hours on the motor and it hasent changed. I put in a new impeller, plenty of water flow. It has a guage but it dosent appear to work. should I ignore the alarm?
