  • Problem with controls

I operate a 2008 DF250 and am having a problem getting the engine to operate at low RPMs. When I initially start up, the engine idles at 800 RPM. When I throttle into forward, the engine revs at this level. If I try to increase the rpm slightly, e.g. to 1000, the engine does not increase rpm in a linear fashion. Rather, I get no response to the throttle then it suddenly accelerates to 2000 rpm, to fast for the no wake zone. Similarly, if I am coming in, the motor will not slow to an idle speed unless I take it out of gear and then reengage. It then runs at 800 rpm and does not respond to a throttle movement to increase rpms to 1000.

Any ideas? My mechanic is stumped (he is supposedly a certified Suzuki mechanic but I get the impression that he is as smart as a box of hammers).

It sounds like a throttle cable adjustment or due to low quality of control cables

Also the idle rpm look high, it should be 600-650 rpm
In fact higher rpm could damage your gear on clutching with high revs
