  • DF140 pressure and engine report

    Hi I am buying a contender 23 open with twin DF140 (2003) with 1300hrs.
    we have done a cylinder pressure check (using a Yamaha kPa pressure gauge) and we were able to test only the top 3 cylinders with these results
    kPa: 900/1000/975 - 1050/1050/1050
    I understand tha these correspond to approx. 140-150 PSIs. Since the normal range should be 1200-1600 kPa or 171-228PSI should I be concerned?

    If the compression test was done with throttle plates open then it is low compression. Would need to run a cylinder leak down test done to see if leaking past valves or pistons.

      Hi, many thanks, the test was done with no throttle, just turning the engine for a couple of seconds with the starter motor.

              idle is high should be 700 + or - 50
              iac duty should be close to 30% (in netural warmed up)
              ctp switch should be on (in netural )
              #2 engine is getting pretty high on temp (might have a 70 thermostat ??
              70 is not recomend for saltwater.
              corroison is this motor biggest proplem a lot depends on good mantance changing zinc's

                Hi Bezerk, thanks,
                How should I interpret in practical terms the discrepancies you mention? should I change the IAC valve or the thermostat?
                I can see some corrosion on the steering bracket which I intend to change and superficially on the inside of one of the SS props but the main engine block seems ok...I believe the infamous oxygen/exhaust plug on the engine holder was not changed should I remove it to check? I will check the hidden Zincs at the next service...anything else?
