    I'm beginning to think it's the engines !!!! Here is where we are at, getting different opinions. 300's on a 31 contender, we are being told that the cavitation plate needs to be 1/2 to 1" outboard side above the bottom of the boat. Now 1 says the cavitation plate right above the prop? Another says the second plate up. Engines are mounted right now with the bottom plate( the plate right above the prop) 1/2" above the bottom of the boat. Boat cavitats at about 2500 to 3000 rpms.... About 15/18 knots and it's mostly the port engine . Been working on this for months....tried 5 sets of props. I believe we have the right props. Any suggestions ??

    Motor may be set too high.

    Forget about how the anti-vent plate is seet in relation to the bottom of the hull. That is, at best, a very rough guide to setting engines at the right height.

    The only real way to set them at the right height is to run the boat up to a fast cruise speed, normal trim position, on a mmoth flat bit of water, and go down the back of the boat and have a look at the anti-vent plate (yes, it is the largest plate directly above the prop).

    It should be skimming the surface of the water with the engine at a normal trim position at that fast cruise speed. If it is right out of the water and the engine is losing grip, then it is too high and egnine needs to be lowered. But if it is skimming the surface or getting splashed, then it is correct height and you probably have another problem.

    Have you checked to ensure that there is nothing on the hull forward of the engines thats creating turbulence? A water pickup, thru hull of some kind? Chunk of anti-foul fallen off?
