  • engine holder corrosion 2001 Df 115

After 13 years and 1900 hours of use corrosion around the engine holder plug has caused engine not to idle right. I have read about having plug hole welded up . Is this a temporary fix or will this last? Have people had good results with this ? Any other fixs other than replacing engine holder?

most welded ones seem to be going OK, do not attempt any sort of epoxy patch, they do not last, welding or replacement is the only option.

I had my engine holder plug welded today , but now notice a small water leak just below the plug area where the oil pan and engine holder join together. I assuming the heat from the weld did damage to oil pan gasket. I assuming I need to replace oil pan gasket . Can this be done by dropping lower unit , unbolting lower motor mounts and removing the drive shaft housing and oil pan connected together to replace gasket. Any suggestions would be helpful . Are there any easier fixs? Thanks
