  • df200 stripped drive shaft/drive gear

Has anyone have issues regarding driveshafts?
I have a per of c/rotating df200 motors and one motor has a stripped driveshaft.Took off the powerhead and removed the drivegear and noticed that the spline on the shaft was worn and the gear that the
shaft fits into was completely stripped (no teeth at all).
Anyone know the cause or perhaps encounted this problem.
    Agents says very expensive repairs.

    Hi,

Dont know the cause for your motor as Im new to Suzukis but ive seen them strip before just due to corrosion. Is your gearbox seized? I did a cheap fix on one of mine years ago. I welded a 1/2 inch drive socket to the bottom of the crank shaft then welded a square drive onto the drive shaft to fit into the socket. Was on a much smaller outboard though.

The drive shaft seals may be bad and letting water get into splines causing corrosion.

No gear would need to be replaced.
