  • DT150 overheats at idle, runs fine @ WOT

got a 03 DT150, just put a new lower unit on 2 weeks ago. I launch last weekend & run about 2-3 miles..when i slow down the pee stream slows then stops, then steam comes out, followed by a cloud of steam from the vent in back & the warning buzzer. I put a new water pump in & it does the same thing..im thinking the pump isnt moving enough water but i cant think why, i would appreciate any advice i could get on this issue

remove or replace the thermostat, its probably stuck closed not allowing it to cool properly.

while you have the stat out remove the lower unit and back flush the water system to clear any trash out by forcing water into the thermostat hole so it flows out the water tube in the midsection. its not perfect but its the best you can do to flush out the water cooling system.

also remove and check any anodes you may have inside the water jackets on the side of the motor. some models have a small space where too thick corrosion on it can restrict water flow.

    hope that helps
