  • Battery requirement DF140A?

I'm re powering my Whaler with a DF140A

I have a lead-acid deep cycle G27 battery, with there specs: 180 reserve minutes, 675 CCA, 840 MCA.

    DF140A Manual states:
-the minimum specs as 160 reserve, 512 CCA, 650 MCA
-Do not use deep cycle for starting
-maintenence-free, sealed, or gel batteries are not recommended as they may not be compatible with Suzuki's charging system.

    Two questions:
    - Is my current battery not suitable due to being deep cycle, despite exceeding the minimum specs?
    - If not, I want to use an AGM battery...are these considered to be sealed and maintenence-free, or can I use one with this engine?

    Thanks

I think you should be fine with your present battery. You might be well advised to put it on a charger at the end of your fishing trip before putting the boat away. I top mine off after each week-long trip. Most outboards only charge the battery to about 85-90% of full charge. I prefer the sealed AGMs myself and have two on my boat with the DF150. The batteries are identical, one is house battery and one for starter, combinable if needed for starting.
