  • DT25c water pump?

Can anyone tell me why the repair manual calls for a silicon sealer between the lower unit housing and the exhaust/mi section housing when replacing the water pump? Is this a necessary step? Never heard of doing it. Also wanted to know if any could tell me where i might get a nice set of controls to convert from tiller handle? Thanks

Suzuki is the only one that suggest silicone be used on housing, we do use it as per service manual but would probably be ok without it.
Number 1 in this diagram is the side mount control box if interested in a new one Suzuki Outboard Parts 1999 DT25C OPTIONAL : REMOTE CONTROL Diagram
Check the parts list for your year model to make sure correct part.
It would required other parts to convert.

Water resistant grease on surface of plate?

Also noticed that the manual calls for a thin layer of water resistant greese be put on the surface of the top part of the plate where the impeller sits. Is this also a good Idea? Never heard of this either. Should any gasket sealer be used on the gasket that is between the lower unit and the impeller plate...or do you simply put the gasket on, then the plate and install the impeller and hosing on top? Thank you so much for the help.

We use soap(liquid or GoJo) on impeller and plate as an assemble lube. Shouldn't sealant on gaskets unless there is some corrosion on parts.

          DT25c water pump/impeller replacement

I'm new to this site. Be kind. My manual says noting about silicon sealer, but it's not a factory manual (Seloc) I'm not real happy with it. Soon I will be attempting to install a new impeller. Does the motor have to be gear to do this? I think Mercury says to have the gear in reverse for easy re-assemble.
