  • Breaking in a new 9.9 Suzuki

I'm trying to follow the owners manual guidelines to break in my 9.9 but engine won't run unless the choke is pulled out. I've been told I need to use a fuel additive (STP was suggested). Any thoughts?

Sounds like a lot of hooey to me. Take it back where you got it and make them get it right. If after 2-3 minutes, it won't idle with the choke off, then something's not right. But also check your peripheral apparatus, i.e., fuel tank and lines, tank venting, etc. Make sure there is no impedance to the fuel delivery to the motor, by either obstruction in the delivery system or negative pressure in the tank. Real quick, without my checking to see if your 9.9 is carburated, if it is, make sure you didn't get some dirt in the float bowl and plug a jet. I assume (I hope) you started with clean fresh gas in your new motor.
