  • 2015 DF140 ECM updates causing other problems

I have a 2015 DF140 bought new in May. Suzuki issued a recall to update the software in the ECM to fix a problem with the water sensor in the gas filter. I had this done in July. When I got the boat back, the tilt/trim gauge no longer worked - it always showed full up. I troubleshot the problem for two months, verifying that the gauge worked, the sensor worked (but with different resistance than expected) and the wiring did not match the only wiring diagram, I could get, which was for a 2008 DF140. I then removed the trim sensor, thinking it may be faulty, but when I started the motor with the sensor missing, I got a check engine light and alarm. That's when it dawned on me that the sensor was tied to the ECM. I then went to my dealer to verify this and he confirmed that others have had the same problem after the ECM update. Now the ECM has to be replaced AGAIN! So a warning - beware of other problems that may arise after ECMs are replaced. Hope this helps......

I just do the same - change of ECM on my DF100A (2014).
Two things happend always when changing ECM; You loose hours on engine (starting with 0 hours) and the trim tilt has to be set again. You have to set high-limit-switch. How to do it is in the manual.

Bow rider, you should have a quiet word to your dealer about this, it is something they should have taken care of when the ECU replacement was done.
