What is the correct engine oil for a 2000 df50?

    I'd like to try a full synthetic 5w - 50w

the weight of the oil is usually associated with the temperature of where you will be using the oil
5w-50 is a pretty wide spread.. but not totally out of the range
why would you consider something as heavy as a 50w oil?

    synthetic is good..
just be sure you use oil made for outboards vs your automobile oils
outboards by design operate at lower temperatures and need oils designed to run at these levels

      Thanks Art,

I'm new to outboards after 30 years of I/O's using car engines and I used Quicksilver 20W-50W all that time but it's not synthetic. I didn't realize that outboards operated at lower temps than I/Os.

BTW, what is the engine oil capacity for my df50? Can't find that info anywhere and I can't find a service manual either.

As a new outboard user and a new Suzuki owner, this forum is wonderful

Can't find your capacities for the 2000 model, but the new DF50A has a 2.9 qt oil capacity. I would think that the oil used would be the same as the larger motors, 10W-40 marine oil. Synth is best.

I have looked at this web site and don't see any easy link to finding the full service manual here, which you are going to want anyway

there is upon searching a ' browns point marine' site that you can find a manual for every Suzuki motor.
