  • DF250 Tappet Clearance

    Hello all,
Just purchases a boat with a 2007 DF250 with 290hrs on the clock.
I honestly don't know if the tappet clearances have been checked but can someone tell me how important it is to check these clearances ?

Also how easy are they to check for a do it yourself guy without the major tools ?

    Thank you,
    PSyd

At least checking the clearances is a good idea, and if not way out of spec, can be let go for awhile longer. But if any are way out of spec, especially if too tight, then it should be addressed.

Checking is not difficult with normal feeler gauges. Changing the shims to bring into specs will require a special tappet holder, Suzuki part no. 09916-69310 ($171 at Partzilla), to depress the cam followers and switch out the shims. And you'll have to do a little simple math to see what thickness shims to buy.
