My '05 DF 140 calls for 10W40 oil. Any name brand 10W40 should be fine.

While "any name brand 10W40 should be fine," I'd add that I think it advisable to use a marine oil, regardless of brand. The outboards run considerably cooler than a modern automotive engine, and the marine oil is formulated with that in mind. Certain impurities that would burn off or evaporate in a hotter running automotive engine might need to be carried in the oil in an outboard. I agree fully with the use of a synthetic oil. Suzuki's is a semi-synthetic, to my knowledge. I use Amsoil marine full synth, and you can get most major synth brands in a marine formula.

That said, I am aware that a lot of folks do use automotive oil, purchased at the local Wallyworld, and I've not heard of any problems doing so. It's just not what I do or recommend.
