Basic question: Suzuki DF9.9 automatic tilt

I have a new Suzuki DF9.9. Was shown the basics, including the simple button to raise and lower motor. But, when I tried it by myself, it only goes down a little and then stops.... I suspect I'm simply missing a step. Any help would be greatly appreciated -- this is very embarrassing to not be able to even get your new motor into the water. Happy 4th. And, thanks!

Most of the time there is a lock to prevent the motor from going down. Don't know the precise name but the lever tilt lock or something. You have to raise the motor till it stops, then you can release the lock that prevents the motor from going down. Then you can lower it. I can make a picture from my motor, although that's an 200hp, the principle is the same.
