Tachometer Trouble

I have a Suzuki DF60a that reads 4000 rpm at wot. Performance is as expected. Dealer suggested that the setting on the back of the tach may be wrong. What setting should it be? Based on a Suzuki chart the alternator has 12 poles. I assume it should be set to 12. The boat is at the coast and I'm not. So I can't do anything yet but am looking for information and a place to begin.

Most tachs are set to half, so a 12 point should be set to 6.
