  • Suzuki DF6 hp 4 stroke low power at full throttle

We bought this motor new, about 3 years ago. We followed the instructions re break in, etc. It has had very little use. The motor starts and idles fine but never seems to get up to speed. We have watched videos showing much better performance from this motor. Any ideas?

Has it always been the same performance? Or is this a recent occurrence?

Does the motor run smoothly at all revs? No missing?

Of course it is difficult to diagnose with only a small bit of information, however, some things to consider before you go down the path of more serious investigations:

Is the fuel fresh? Old fuel deteriorates and in motors used infrequently this is not uncommon. Poor performance is the result. Drain fuel, refill with fresh fuel, test again.

Fuel tank breather not opened! Wouldnt be the first one of us to forget to open the tank breather, and of course this can affect revs from starvation. Doh!

Propellor selection: now this depends very much on the boat and weights being carried. But you could be over-propped, with the result that the engine cant reach the normal full throttle revs. Or, the load you are trying to push with that little 6hp might simply be too great for it.

Good luck, let us know how you go, but remember, the more info you provide to forum members about what is happening and what youve tried so far, the better we can help.
