Help identifying Outboard

Hey All,

I recently picked up a Suzuki outboard, however have very limited details on it / its age.

It's been painted a couple times (camo for hunting), and i cant seem to locate a model number on the exterior thats not covered.

According to the previous owner its a 2stroke 8.5 Suzuki. It has tiller control's, and thats about all i know. (havnt seen any info on a 8.5 suzuki online)

Any idea on how i might be able to identify, or narrow down the options?

There should be a serial and model number plate on the bracket that attaches the motor to the boat. If you can find that it will give you the required info to figure out hp and year.

If that is gone, then best take a series of photos from several angles, including some with the engine cowl off so the engine itself is visible - someone may be able to hazard a guess at what it might be. Post them here and see what comes up!
