  • Suzuki 2.5 HP Conversion from Long Shaft to Short Shaft

I'm looking into converting a 2.5 hp Suzuki outboard (2019) from long shaft to short shaft. This means removing the casing in the middle and replacing the drive shaft, water tube, and shift rod from the 20" to the 15" shaft model. Would someone know how much the lower unit has to be taken apart in order to disengage the drive shaft? Is it a relatively simple process or is it a no-go?
    Thanks,

You have to remove the prop shaft in order to get to the clip that holds the pinion gear. See this picture:

So remove the 2 bolts that hold the hub. Then remove the complete drive shaft. Don't forget to drain the gear oil first. It's a simple process.

Looking at the costs, for about $100 you have the parts. Replace the water tube is the hardest part. You have to remove the engine block in order to get to the tube. But also not difficult.
