Fair to say that corrosion in ANY wires running to or from the ecu is going to cause real problems. It would be good to know precisely where those corroded wires were located, it does seem that they may have been part of the ecu power supply that Art described in his sticky.

Its kind of a pity in one way that they did anything to the interface wiring, as I really don’t think that was the issue. Trouble is, so many things were changed that its now difficult to know for sure which of them solved the root cause. Though the corroded ecu wires would be prime candidates for sure. Usual problem solving method is - change one thing, re-test to see if symptoms are gone or not.

The other things they fixed - the thermostat and injectors - they were clearly diagnosable factual problems that should obviously have been fixed anyway.

But the symptoms described didn’t match the interface power supply/wiring issue as I personally found it, nor as per the service bulletin that was subsequently issued. Safe mode being initiated caused by that issue kicks in at 3000rpm, simple as that. Not 4000rpm. The difference may not seem significant, but it is.

All good though that the engine is now running like new again.
