  • Want to ask about disassembly of VST to replace tiny fuel filter inside 2004 225

    I purchased all 4 fuel filters for my 2004 Suzuki 225 4-stroke.

Fuel filter with red ring that floats on water
    High pressure fuel pump filter
U shaped small filter near front of engine
The tiny filter that goes inside the VST

The first 3 filters are exposed and straightforward to put in. But I wanted to ask about draining and dismantling the Vapor Separator Tank (VST) to install the tiny filter. Can a moderately experienced shade tree mechanic, a guy that can do his own brakes and oil changes but not rebuild an engine, properly dismantle and reassemble the VST? I bought a new VST gasket that I will use. Don't want to attempt that unless I can do it.

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Not difficult
    I have a 175. so probably similar
have a few hoses to disconnect
    drain the fuel
removed the 3 bolts holding it to engine
remove screws and lift top off
filter is on the bottom of the pump in the lower half

    suggest getting the service manual
these types of things are pretty well detailed and give you more confidence in doing the job and gives you an insight what the job calls for before even starting
