DF60a Skipping Out Of Gear

Hi. I have a DF60a 2012 with low hours, 500. The other morning I warmed it up at the ramp then took off at about half throttle. I had forward travel but the engine kept skipping in and out of gear. It sounded like when the engine is trimmed too high and the prop can’t bite the water properly. I stopped, cycled the gear lever into reverse and forward a few times then took off again forward. Engine worked fine for the rest of the day.

Any ideas what could have caused the jumping in and out of gear?
