  • DF40 Auto Trim "No Go"

Initially, the trim stopped lifting the motor "up", and just hummed with the up switch on. "Down" worked fine. I continued to use the motor and manually lifted it by backing out the manual pressure release screw. After using several more times, grease leaked out of the cylinder, whitish in color, apparently from water. Now, the trim won't run "up" or "down". Where do I start to fix?

Sounds like you need to replace the seals, order a set from boats.net

Thanks. I haven't replaced seals in anything, so I'll need some instruction. It looks like I can leave the unit in-place on the outboard (cylinder-motor mounted on casting), but not sure how to 'open up' the cylinder. Any advice on details of replacing the seals?
