Long period of no use. I would take pics of each side, then record # of turns for any mixture screws (high & low speed), then remove those, and any other jets. Then soak remainder of carb well in carb cleaner. Afterwards, using an air compressor with good air nozzle, blow every air & fuel pas-sage thoroughly forwards, and backwards. Followed by each jet, mixture screw, and any other parts.

Then re-as.semble parts in reverse, as you removed them. The float setting by the manual i don't have. But a good rule for floats is exactly level (as fuel would sit in bowl). Place a small tube on fuel inlet that you can blow into. While holding carb body in normal upright, close to level (float and needle valve in place) position, blow into tube, at same time raise float gently upwards. If the air stops and float is right at level, you should be good. If float is above level, it is too high (fuel could overfill bowl and run out of carb throat), readjust to level. If float is below level when air stops going through, then float is too low (fuel will probably run empty in bowl at high speeds), readjust to level. Repeat the test several times if needed.

Make sure you put the mixture screws back to the settings when removed, or set by the manual, if you didn't record before removal.

i'm set at pretty level and the motor seems like it can run all day at half throttle. it doesn't idle. there is a big change in how much air can pass through between when it is wide open and when it is close to closed and then it completely closes so no air goes through.

I replaced the fuel lines but not the bulb which was stiff. after a week of soaking in fresh fuel and ethanol focused fuel additive something gave in the bulb and my fuel got dirty again. fuel flow is easier through the bulb and lines now.

i'm comparing a new Chinese carb at $110 versus $70-80 for a harbor freight sonic cleaner.

should consider getting a new bulb too.

Just go to any auto parts store and buy a gal can of carb cleaner, make sure it has a basket for small parts inside. Then just remove the jets (record settings), leave the rest of carb alone. Soak one carb and its parts at a time. After soaking use compressed air to blow all the little pas-sages and jets.

That should be all you need. Good luck, post back how it's going when able.

I'm a great fan of my ultrasonic cleaner. Clean a lot of carbs and never got disappointed with the result.

I picked up a gallon can today and got it soaking. also got a new fuel bulb since so much varnish was coming out of the new fuel line with old bulb.

Did you clean all the old fuel out of tank? You should use a fuel additive in every tank, and one that includes ethanol protection if using that. Otherwise, you may have to clean carb(s) again.

getting heavy rain so letting the carb soak at least 24 hours. if that doesn't clear it up i'll do a five day soak.

I had drained the tank and put in fresh fuel and a large dose of an enzyme fuel conditioner. I cant say the brand but it was a blue bottle enough for 48 gallons. I put half in my six gallon tank.

after a week on the conditioned fuel soaking in my new fuel line it started producing a bunch of dirty fuel but the tank fuel was clean. it had to have come from the old bulb.

If you have an inline filter put one on before the bulb. It could save having to go through all this again.

a 48 hour soak had no effect so I put the carb back in the chem dip can from Walmart. I am trying to mimic a sonic cleaner by placing my vibratory rifle/pistol case cleaner on top of the chem dip can. not sure how long to run it with the vibrator and I mentioned a 5 day soak next.

my chem dip solution looked like dark brown used solution from days past. i'm not sure if I didn't get a returned can from Walmart.

also picked up a new fuel filter according to solarman's recommend and common sense.

well, a 3 day soak in the chem dip and 2 hours of vibration sitting under my case cleaner has revealed a hole in one of the brass screws at the top of the carb that I had forgotten was there. I was going to try boiling it next but did not need to.

it's running fast and slow now seems a little smokey in the driveway when you are not moving away from the fumes on the water.

It maybe due to the high concentration of additive in the fuel, or if pre-mixing oil, a little too much oil? Also, maybe the mixture screw for idle if not set at factory setting, may not be adjusted correctly? Or, if the air pas-sage ways are still blocked, then it will cause the motor to run too rich.

If the soaking doesn't help, think about an ultra sonic device, also nice for cleaning the admirals jewelry

There are some different cleaning agents but for jewelry you can use just water with a few drops of dishwasher fluid. The ultrasonic takes care of the dirt. Pretty awesome to see how fast the dirt comes out of the carb. I use a machine like this (only a bit smaller):

for carbs I use a 5% mix of special carb cleaner and water. Heat it up to 60 C and 20 minutes is enough.
