  • 2002 df140 that will not start with the key

I just bought this bay boat that has 2 df 140 engines on it. It has been sitting a couple of yrs. But new batterys on it and cleaned all the terminals. When you turn the key on it cycles threw and beeps. When I turn the key to start it does not make a sound at the motor. I checked the key switch it's sends power to the shifter and power comes back out of the shifter. It does the same thing on both engines. I checked the fuses on the motor. I I but power staight to the starter solenoid and the engine will turn over but has no fire to the plugs. Any ideas on what to check next?? Thank for any help

Almost sounds like a neutral switch problem at the ignition switch

        Faulty ignition coil. Replace.
        Faulty CKP sensor. Replace.

        Replace.
        Faulty ECM. Replace.
Sometimes I bang my head against the wall in disbelief, why would you change all these components without testing them. The clue was given to you when you by past the neutral switch on the motor straight to the starter solenoid. The ecu will not put a ground on the injectors or switch the coils if the neutral switch is in the open position, check the cable adjustment. When you say shifter, I assume you mean the neutral switch in the shift control. the neutral switches on the motor are probably stuck open from sitting so long.

I checked the neutral switch I think. It has brown wires that come from the key switch to the neutral switch. And I get 12v from the key switch to the neutral switch and 12v comes back out when i turn the key to the start position .

At the switch on the motor battery voltage will come in through a brown wire and leave through a yellow and green wire to the starter relay.

I checked the brown wire at the motor and I get 12v when I hit the key. I can't see where the brown wire goes to.

try man over board harness switch pull it in and out make sure it is not rusted.. on regular engine when you turn the key halfway you hear a solid beep activating the fuel pump then if you turn the switch all the way starter will turn if man over board switch harness is missing you get a the solid sound but engine will not turn .. make sure the gear is in neutral and I have a hard time getting mine in neutral all the times .. you hear a click when it is in neutral
