  • Propeller Nut Torque Spec Question

I have a 200hp. The torque specs for the propeller nut is 40 ft-lb. When I tighten the propeller nut to 40 ft-lb with my torque wrench the nut ends up covering the hole for the cotter pin. I either have to back off the nut or tighten the nut to get the hole for the cotter pin to line up. When I back it off from 40 ft-lb to line up the hole its at 25 ft-lb. If I tighten the nut from 40 ft-lb I have to bring it to 65 ft-lb in order for the hole to line up. My question is should I tighten it to 65 ft-lb or or loosen it to 25 ft-lb?

I would do the 65 but that's me. I think both are fine.

      My vote is 65ft-lbs.

Honestly, I just tighten the sucker. Then pin at the nearest hole. You don't want it loose, but I doubt that torque numbers at that location are the least bit critical.
