I have a 2018 200hp Suzuki. I'm going to change the water pump this weekend and I was reading the service manual and it says to disconnect the battery. Is it really necessary to disconnect the battery even if the key isn't even in the ignition?

My service manual states the same thing. When I replaced the water pump there was NO evidence of any sealant applied at the factory. I didn’t put any sealant as per service manual. There are holes in the leg to allow water to drain, those same holes allow water to flood the impeller chamber so my thinking is the impeller housing has water on both sides. (Inside and outside) Could be wrong though.Originally posted by b1gdog83 View PostOne last question: The manual says to use a sealant on the mating surfaces of the gearcase and driveshaft housing. It also says to add sealant to the 7 gearcase bolts. Is this necessary? I have the Suzuki grease but no sealant.
