  • Oil drain plug

I bought a boat with a 15 year old df50 with less then 50 hrs on it. Went to change oil but couldn't break loose the drain plug. (allen wrench type). Ended up drilling it and using an extractor bit to get it out. Replaced it with same size but hex bolt type from auto store. After a couple of start ups noticed it was leaking a touch so tried tightening some more and stripped either the plug or hole threads , won't tightening just keeps turning. Any recommendations?

Regular bolt don't have enough seal surface for a drain plug. (Expensive lesson) Alu. oil pan & steel bolt = stripped Alu. pan 99.999% of the time.
A <50hr motor might be worth changing the pan? Or pull it out(bolt) drain oil, find a Drain Plug W/larger thread dia. that you can tap the stripped hole to match the larger threads. Use a correct size sealing washer
when you re install the new plug either way. Good luck!!

Thankyou for the reply's, The replacement I used was a drain plug, not a regular bolt, not sure why it leaked, maybe a different style gasket?
